Announcements
- Medicine Warrior Powwow on September 23 at Clinton Park
- Computer-generated logos presented. Redoing health logo
- Missing logo on FES —jobs, economic development, assets
- Would like logo for 23rd Avenue
- Add Lower San Antonio Collaborative
- Add safety to health logo—change shelter logo (drop safety, add security)
- Need to have one logo and then symbols to reflect different areas of work
Work Group Updates
Housing
- Waiting for IURD report. Meeting on September 17 to present report at Hismen Hinnu at 3:30 p.m.
Arts & Culture
- Second town hall last Friday. Concentrated on [can’t make out wd] on doors at Hismen Hinnu. Made good connection with parents of kids who participated in summer classes. Good panel discussion on education
- Next one on September 26 on juvenile justice issues
- Tried to purchase Chacone building. Delbert Hamilton, owner, doesn’t want to sell. Land Trust and East Bay Community Law Center wants to work with them
- Will reconvene site committee
- Jennie and Don would like to be on it
23rd Avenue
- EBALDC proposal
- Meeting with Dan V.
- Elena spoke with Libby—she’s willing to work with collaborative on how to use Miller Library site
- Bring up Miller Library building to Dan V.—redevelopment set-aside for historic buildings
- EBALDC wants to have multiuse center
Newspaper
- Next issue coming out at end of September
- Deadline is September 12 for articles
MCMOI
- September 21 big event at Parkway Theater for interstitials and screening for Matters of Race program
- September 21, 3 p.m. at Parkway
- No on Prop 54 and voter registration at event
FES
- Have been meeting to refine survey process
- Meeting next week—September 9 at 1 p.m. at EBAYC
- Discussions happening about merging FES and asset development (EITC)
- Focus on food stamps and other benefits around EITC
Health & Safety
- Working on health promotion proposal
- Waiting for commitment letter from Casey
- La Clinica is developing a job description for health promotion coordinator
- Will do insurance enrollment events at LSA schools
- Suggested that health work group could plan one of the town hall meetings. ESAA takes care of cultural component, work group does program
Small Grants Program
- Meeting with Larry Vitale on small grants program. Willing to work with collaborative. Meeting tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Lao Family
Resident Engagement
- Jessica gave overview of resident engagement document
- Recommendation to have a retreat
- Could get help from Bill Traynor
- Report missing—MCMOI as catalyst for softball league
- Add Clean City Academy —attended by residents and merchants
- Add SACDC economic development summit
- Note: Issue that residents are polled and then CBOs make decision
- Note: Just because we’re bringing people together doesn’t mean they’re engaged
- Talk with Omowale about East Palo Alto model
- Get info from Bill Traynor in advance of meeting
- Need good retreat planning
