Announcements
- The MCMOI work group is moving its meetings to 6-8pm to encourage more youth and resident participation. The next meeting will be on Tuesday Feb. 18th at the San Antonio CDC.
- The Newspaper work group had a retreat with Omowale Satterwaite to refocus and reorganize the group’s work. They are planning another session for Feb. 22nd from 10am-2pm .
Review of Collaborative Restructuring Plan
- We need to further define the role of the Planning Committee
- Is there a role for the Planning Committee in reviewing proposals for new projects?
- Three of the existing work groups do not fall within the three proposed cluster groups: Family Economic Success; Education; and Safety
- Does the Housing work group and the 23rd Avenue work group belong under FES?
- Does the 23rd Avenue work group belong under the Safety cluster? Or, should the 23rd Avenue work stand alone and remain a pilot project that brings together different pieces of work
- Each cluster area would prioritize projects and make recommendations to the Planning Committee
- Does the Planning Committee become more of an arbiter?
- The Planning Committee should become more active in setting strategies to achieve outcomes.
- MCMOI, Newspaper, Cultural Development, and resident engagement should fall under the Planning Committee. In this way, we will make sure that resident engagement stays at the forefront.
- We may want to look at different collaborative/governance models. Could TARC develop a report on different models?
- Isabel expressed concern that we are not listening to the voice of parents and residents. They should be at the forefront of decision making.
- Each cluster area should present work plans by May.
III. Convening Cluster Groups
- We should start with the FES cluster.
- One of the first things the cluster needs to do is gather data: what of research, data, information gathering do we need to do?
- We need to do a scan of skill sets, employer needs, and the economic environment.
- The main responsibility of the FES group should be prioritization.
- We can continue to have sub-groups focused on specific issues, such as housing, work force development.
- David commented that we need to be able to win major victories around policy and how public and private resources are invested in the Lower San Antonio. This should be the main objective of the work. Each cluster group or the Planning Committee should give some thought to do and come up with 2-3 major targets.
