Health Work Group Meeting
Tuesday, October 1, 2002
The Health Work Group of the Lower San Antonio (LSA) Collaborative met with National Community Development Institute (NCDI) to determine a budget for and possible partners in implementing strategies, and to address technical assistance needs and resources from the Casey Foundation. Six participants attended the meeting including representatives from the Alameda County Public Health, Alameda Alliance for Health, La Clinica de la Raza, Urban Strategies, Family Life Resource Center and SACDC.
Following up from the previous meeting, the group discussed their concerns about not having residents involved in this phase of the process. While it became understood that it would be too late to bring residents to the table right now, alternative ways of getting residents involved were suggested:
- Have representatives from agencies take information back to each community organization
- Have residents participate in health fares
- Implement parenting classes
- Conduct community meetings that are issue-based for initial input from residents
Other concerns regarding money for such outreach efforts, tackling specific issues while still addressing outcomes, and Casey’s documents not being representative of the needs and views of community residents were also expressed.
