Alan Wheeler and Michael Burke are the new owners of the old Bank of America building. They want to build eight market-rate condominiums, to be priced at about $300,000 on up. The condos will range in size from 650 square feet to 1,100 square feet. They are seeking a letter of support from the 23rd Avenue Corridor Work group as they proceed with getting city approval to turn this currently vacant building into market-rate condos. They would want the 23 rd avenue Group support by the end of this week ( Feb 11, 2005 ). Four members of the 23 rd Avenue work-group volunteer to study the issue of whether the entire work group should endorse the project and to contact anti-gentrification advocates for advice. The four members will look at drafting a list of community benefits for the two owners to commit to before the work group decides on endorsing the project.
