Announcements
- Unchained Memories screening—February 1, 7 p.m., Calvin Simmons
SDS Team
- Jocelyn—new SDS lead
- Passed out matrix
- Trash cans being installed—nine new ones. ESAA will paint trash cans
- If cans are over-filling, call in 434-5100
- Helpful phone numbers list has all important numbers
Trees
- Cut twenty-five to thirty wells already. Have until mid-February to cut an additional thirty wells. Will plant up to ninety trees
- Will start planting within three weeks. Will finish by mid-March
- All trees will be maintained by property owners
- Can the city supply chicken wire to protect trees from being broken
Street Lights
- Is it possible to put up nice street lights?
- Can Urban Ecology process take up issue of lighting?
- Feedback at workshop is that there’s not enough light on sidewalks and lights are shot out
- Use CEPTED—what are nontraditional ways that city can help
Code Compliance
- Did an exterior assessment
- Looking for mechanism to do internal assessment but need to be invited in
- Trying to use fire marshal inspection power
- We should think about educating people so they will invite fire marshals and inspectors in
- Tenants can call Sentinel Fair Housing, First Stop Oakland; they will be intermediary with landlord
- Cracked sidewalks
- City is not responsible for fixing cracked sidewalks, property owner is
- City trying to identify matching funds to help with sidewalk repairs
- Urban Ecology could connect their plan to link to application to MTC for capital improvements
- Would like one-page fact sheet on SDS, phone numbers

- Don’t need city’s permission to write landlord about problem property; cc City Council, city attorney
- Libby would like to develop a renewed work plan. Libby wants to update plan based on Urban Ecology process
- Libby wants to remove items: lc-lc [PER P. 3 OF MS.]
- We have responsibility to engage residents around SDS process: let’s open up the discussion, look at the whole SDS 3 area, engage residents and merchants
- Can we be getting data from the city
- Urban Ecology can give feedback from community workshop to inform SDS plan
- If LSA organizes specific buildings, Libby’s office will help
- Immigrants in Garcia and Grant buildings. Makes it hard to organize. In Grant Avenue, two American families start organizing with them
- Urban Ecology should be feeding information to the SDS team so they can update
- Every two months written update of SDS project
- Urban Ecology will identify issues
- Could EBAYC send parents through city’s leadership program ( Citizens Academy ) and Safe & Clean Academy (three-hour training)—one in late March for community potentially
- EBAYC would like to do Safe & Clean City Academy for staff
Redevelopment Areas
- District 2 PAC members got together to talk about outreach in District 2
- How can we influence implementation plan?
- Meeting with Jennie, Isabel, EBALDC, Libby, Chris T., redevelopment staff, Urban Ecology. Could help frame Urban Ecology process. Get clear on implementation plan
- Use next Urban Ecology workshop to discuss issues relevant to redevelopment area
